Denver TaCO Student Correspondent (Internship)

About the Role

Core Responsibilities:

Interns will gain experience in the following areas:
1. Video Journalism & On-Camera Reporting

-Appear on camera in scripted 2–3 minute video segments
-Develop comfort and clarity in public-facing storytelling
-Practice professional delivery and tone

2. Taco Review Field Production

-Visit local taco spots in the Denver metro area
-Film on location using smartphones
-Capture B-roll, interviews (when appropriate), and ambient footage
-Connect food, culture, and neighborhood storytelling

3. ICE-Related Reporting (Supervised & Source-Based)

Interns will NOT:
-Conduct field verification of ICE raids
-Approach enforcement officers
-Investigate active enforcement scenes

ICE-related reporting will consist of:
-Summarizing and contextualizing information already reported by trusted sources such as community rapid response networks and verified partner organizations
-Translating verified information into accessible 2–3 minute video reports
-Following strict editorial and safety approval processes prior to publication

4. Video Editing & Production
-Edit 2–3 minute video segments weekly
-Add captions and basic graphics
-Learn pacing, structure, and storytelling flow
-Receive training in beginner-to-intermediate editing tools
-Training will be provided for all required skills.

Learning Outcomes:
-By the end of the internship, students will be able to:
-Produce and edit 2–3 minute video journalism segments
-Deliver clear, confident on-camera reporting
-Apply ethical standards in community-centered storytelling
-Translate complex policy information into accessible formats
-Manage weekly production timelines
-Collaborate within a structured editorial workflow and script writing
-Professional & Academic Value

This internship provides:
-Portfolio-ready video journalism content
-Real-world newsroom-style experience
-Structured supervision and documented learning objectives
-Professional references upon successful completion
-Documentation for academic credit (if approved by the student’s institution)

*DenverTaCO is happy to complete required university forms, learning agreements, and evaluations.*

Requirements

This internship is open to College Juniors and Seniors only (required)

  • Students majoring in or studying:

    • Journalism

    • Communications

    • Media Studies

    • Political Science

    • Sociology

    • Ethnic Studies

    • Or related fields


Preferred (not required):

  • Interest in video journalism

  • Comfort appearing on camera

  • Spanish language skills

About the Company

Juntos Community is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering undocumented immigrants, with a focus on supporting DACA recipients to build generational wealth and upward mobility. Through our DACAWorks program, we help DACA recipients learn how to renew their work permits and award grants to remove financial barriers. We also host community-building events to connect and strengthen our community so they can live healthy lives and thrive financially.
