About the Role

What You’ll Do
Over four weeks, trainees will:
- Analyze a detention timeline
- Research habeas case law
- Draft sections of a federal petition
- Participate in legal strategy discussions
- Learn federal filing procedures
- Engage in trauma-informed legal practices

All work will be supervised and reviewed by the supervising attorney. Trainees will not provide independent legal advice.

- Why you are interested in this pilot
- Any legal research or writing experience
- Your availability during the 4-week period (April-early May)

Writing sample (no more than 5 pages)
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be invited to a brief interview.

Requirements

We are seeking:

  • DOJ-accredited representatives

  • Law students (2L/3L preferred but not required)

  • Paralegals

  • Legal advocates

  • Community advocates with strong research and writing skills

You do not need prior habeas experience. You should be detail-oriented, reliable, and able to commit to the full 4-week schedule.
