About the Role
Role Overview
The selected attorney will:
- Serve as counsel of record on one federal habeas petition
- Design and facilitate a structured 4-week training curriculum
- Supervise 1–3 trainees drafting the petition
- Review and revise all filings
- Maintain full professional responsibility for the case
- Provide a short evaluation memo at the conclusion of the pilot
This is a limited-scope contract position.
Time Commitment
Approximately 35–45 hours over 6 weeks.
Weekly training sessions (virtual or hybrid)
Draft review and supervision
Filing and limited post-filing strategy guidance
Compensation
Flat fee: $3,000

Requirements
We are seeking an attorney who has:
Experience litigating in federal district court
Familiarity with habeas corpus and/or immigration detention cases
Strong legal judgment and ethical clarity
Experience mentoring, supervising, or teaching
A commitment to community-centered and trauma-informed lawyering
Admission to the relevant federal district court (or eligibility) required.
